Benefits & Grants
I’m the Welfare Benefit Development Worker.
I support Carers and the Carer Support Co-ordinators with complex benefit issues. Due to the ongoing Welfare Reform process, many people are struggling to understand the changes that have happened, what they need to do to continue to meet the eligibility criteria for certain benefits, or carers in employment; and what to do when things go wrong.
I’m here to provide specialist support and information to assist people to manage their claims and understand the process in the future. I link in with many partnership organisations that provide advice with benefit issues and keep Durham County Carers Support staff up to date with difficulties that anyone who claims a welfare benefit may face.
I link with many “Money Management” organisations such as credit unions and community banks, fuel poverty and debt charities.
Welfare Benefits can be difficult to understand, but we can help you. We regularly assist with applications and some of the kinds of benefits that you may qualify for are listed below. These are only a few of the options, for more information on any of these benefits contact your Carer Support Coordinator.
